Collected and analyzed PPVT data from 4 pilot sites to present to the Early Childhood Education Indicators of Program Quality Task Force.

May 17: Presented the TFLRC website at the Even Start Business Meeting in Houston.

May 18-19: Attended "Reading and Talking Together: Promoting Research-Based Practice in Parent-Child Interactive Literacy Activities" offered through the U.S. Department of Education in Houston.

February - April 2005: Met with GREAT Center directors in Central, South Central, Coastal, Far West, and South regions to discuss results of their region's Family Literacy Professional Development Needs Assessments.

TFLRC presented "Project Start-Up, a workshop for New Even Start Coordinators" (download the MS PowerPoint). This workshop focused on implementation details for new Even Start Coordinators as a follow-up to the Program Implementation training provided by Texas LEARNS and presented by Becky King of the National Center for Family Literacy. Aspects of starting up an Even Start project that were examined included:

Coordination of aspects of a family literacy program, including local budget and human resources procedures

Establishing local partnerships for service delivery

Program planning, including aspects of orientation, recruitment and assessment
Lots of great brainstorming and collaboration provided new coordinators with ideas and understanding about their own projects and enabled them to develop collegial relationships with other Even Start Coordinators.
January 2005: TFLRC staff and consultants facilitated several sessions at the Texas Association for Literacy and Adult Education (TALAE) conference in Austin, TX.

Lilie Elizondo-Limas and Audrey Abed co-presented "Let’s Talk, Baby! The Parent and Child Connection to Language Development," a session on language development of infants and toddlers. Download the MS PowerPoint.

Denise Guckert presented a session entitled "Integrating Technology into Family Literacy ESL" to assist adult educators in family literacy programs to effectively introduce technology skills to their parents and how to integrate technology activities into family literacy settings. TFLRC coordinated "Let’s Play: Developing Effective & Fun Parent/Child Activities," a session on interactive parent and child literacy activities presented by Erin Liles. Download the MS PowerPoint.
December 2004: TFLRC provided several family literacy sessions during the December, 2004 El Paso Adult Learning and Literacy (EPALL) second annual conference.

Lilie Elizondo-Limas presented a session entitled "Promoting Language and Early Literacy Development in Family Literacy Programs," specifically intended to assist family literacy early childhood providers as they enhance their language and early literacy instruction for young children .

Researched Even Start job descriptions throughout Texas and Elementary and Secondary Education Act, No Child Left Behind, and Title I staff requirement qualifications to and developed sample Even Start Job Descriptions.

Researched Even Start Indicaors of Program Quality nationwide and presented a summary matrix and analysis to the Texas Early Child Education Indicators of Program Quality Task Force.
